FREE Course Available in Health & Social Care
PeoplePlus is able to offer a Health & Social Care qualification to people who are currently or newly employed in the industry. The qualification is perfect for anyone working in a care or early years setting, as it will form part of their mandatory training needed to work in the sector.
Who is the qualification for?
This qualification is aimed at anyone over 19 in Wales and has been developed by the City & Guilds/WJEC consortium in conjunction with stakeholders from the health and social care sector. These included Social Care Wales, Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW), tutors, teachers and workplace assessors.
The official qualification is City & Guilds Level 2 Health and Social Care: Core
What does the qualification cover?
The qualification covers the fundamental knowledge and understanding of the All Wales Induction Framework for Health and Social Care and reflects a range of different roles and settings including:
- The principles and values of health and social care
- Health and well-being
- Professional practice as a health and social care worker
- Safeguarding individuals
- Health and safety in health and social care
What opportunities for progression are there?
This qualification supports learners to progress into further study, including the following qualifications within the suite of Health and Social Care, and Childcare qualifications for Wales:
- Level 2 Health and Social Care: Practice (Adults)
- Level 2 Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts (Adults, Children and Young People)
- Level 3 Health and Social Care: Practice (Adults)
- Level 3 Health and Social Care: Practice (Children and Young People)
PeoplePlus Cymru is able to deliver the qualification to people for FREE by using the Personal Learning Account (PLA) funding.
Eligibility includes anyone who is over the age of 19 and lives in Wales, with any of the following criteria –
- Currently are or have been on furlough
- Earning under the median income £29,534
- Working on a zero-hour contract
- Are at risk of being made redundant
- Agency staff
- Has had their career impacted by Covid-19
Eligibility
The Core qualification is essential for those in the Care sector to gain a fully recognised qualification which can use elements of their company’s induction programme, delivered by fully competent sector assessors and in a fast -track model.
Once a Core qualification has been achieved within 6 months, opportunities to progress to Level 2 or Level 3 Practice Qualification will be available along with the ability to change into other routes or roles on the Care sector e.g from adult to childcare.
This route of completing a Core through a PLA and progressing onto a Practice qualification (also fully funded) through Welsh Government can enable full registration with Social care Wales within 12 months.

The qualification can be delivered at any of the PeoplePlus centres across Wales, or in an employer’s place of work (depending on volumes)
