Volunteer to Part-time job!
Carol had joined Fair Start Scotland after her husband had passed away, she wasn't sure what to do when it came to looking for work as her husband was the one who worked in her household due to her having arthritis and finding it difficult to gain employment.
Carol had met PeoplePlus Key Workers Elaine and Martin at the GESH community hub where she volunteers. She was hoping to get a part time job at the HUB as she had been volunteering for just under a year and had experience working in the kitchen, had built relationships with the customers and knew that the staff were very accommodating in relation to her arthritis and not being fully mobile, but unfortunately the manager at the hub said they were unable to offer Carol a job as they didn’t have the funds to take on another member of staff.
Once Carol had explained the situation to Elaine and Martin, they helped her apply for Glasgow Guarantee which helped to gain the funding for the community hub which eventually led to Carol being offered a part time role helping in the kitchen.
Elaine and Martin had also supported Carol by helping update her CV, teaching her some basic interview skills and they also helped Carol sign up to Indeed, supporting her to apply for some job opportunities before she had been offered the role at the hub.
Carol has said “Without the help from Elaine and Martin I wouldn’t have known what PeoplePlus and Glasgow Guarantee were and I wouldn’t be where I am today”.
